Dr. Alex Ajayi

Alex is a generalist clinician with training and expertise in working with a variety of presenting issues and mental health conditions. These include:

Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) for PTSD
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples and individuals

In addition to psychotherapy, he enjoys conducting career assessments and psychosocial evaluations for bariatric and gender confirmation surgeries.
Alex holds a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from the University of Minnesota. He has provided psychotherapy and assessment services in diverse clinical settings including hospitals, community clinics, private practice, and academic centers. He has extensive experience working with a broad range of concerns and tailoring treatment to meet an individual’s unique needs and goals.
Teaching
In addition to clinical practice, Alex is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of Minnesota where he conducts research, teaches courses, and advises graduate and undergraduate students. He teaches a variety specialized courses in counseling psychology.
Research
Alex also directs psychology research laboratory at the University of Minnesota, where he works with a team of graduate and undergraudate students conducting research focused on the intersection of identity, culture, and well-being. The lab’s current research interests include:

Social identity development
Health psychology
Innovative psychological interventions
