Dr. Gisel Suarez Bonilla

Pre-Licensed Psychologist

Gisel is trained as a generalist psychologist and holds expertise working with different mental health concerns, such as:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Relationship issues

  • Academic concerns

  • Trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder

Gisel is committed to providing culturally appropriate, tailored care to her clients, meeting them where they are in terms of their development and readiness for change. She utilizes an integrated framework that incorporates the following:

  • Psychodynamic Therapy

  • Interpersonal Therapy

  • Emotion-focused Therapy

  • Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy

  • Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction

  • Solution-Focused Therapy

Gisel holds a Counseling Psychology Ph.D. from Texas Tech University. She has experience providing psychotherapy and assessment services in various clinical settings such as university counseling centers, community mental health centers, and academic medical centers.

Teaching

In addition to clinical work, Gisel is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Augsburg University, where she teaches courses, advises and mentors undergraduate students, and conducts research.

Research

Gisel also leads a research lab at Augsburg University, where she works with undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students researching Latinx/e mental health and well-being.
